As part of our series of reminders on “the invisible world”, we are interested in angels, their features , in their names , in their works , the places they frequent so that the differences that the distinguished demons . Today we continue our series are looking at other invisible beings. After the angels, we stop now on the existence of the Jinn.

The existence of the Jinn and belief in them

The fact that jinn do exist should be no shadow of doubt in the mind of the Muslim.Indeed, although they belong to the world of the unseen, they are part of God’s creation, we have to recognize and to which we must firmly believe, just as we believe in angels.

The existence of the Jinn has been reported in the word of Allah but by His Messenger ( ‘alayhi wasallam). The Djinn name comes from the Arabic words’ janna, ajanna, jane “which means all three cover, hide , veil.thus the term Djinn have been allocated in the sense that they are beings that we do not see.

About the existence of Djiinns and belief in them, Sheikh Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Nobody among the Muslims deny the existence of the jinn. Similarly, the majority of unbelievers recognize their existence as it was reported on good authority through the prophets who have succeeded repeatedly. This is known by force of circumstance as much by ordinary people by elites . Thus, everyone recognizes this reality except a tiny part of ignorant philosophers and others. ” The existence of the Jinn is a certainty and belief in them an obligation for every Muslim.

The creation of Djinns

Djinns are part of Allah’s creation as we have explained. But we need to know, dear brothers and sisters, these unseen creatures were created before man himself. Did you know that the Jinn were created at least 2,000 years before humans? This was reported by the ahaadeeth and explained by the eminent scholar Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on him) in his tafsir.

Indeed, the Jinn were created before man and occupied the land before him. On this land, they have sown unrest and wars. Ibn Kathir explains according to the hadith reported by Al Hakim: “Les Djinns lived on earth two thousand years before the creation of Adam. They sowed corruption in the land and made the blood flow(unfairly). Then Allah sent them a host of angels who smote them and drove them to the edges of the seas. This is why lorsqu’Allah said: {When thy Lord said to the angels: “I will establish on earth a successor” Khalifa “. They said, “Will You install someone who will make mischief therein and shed blood ‘} (Surah 2: Verse 30). The angels were afraid that the jinn crimes are repeated again with the arrival of humans ” .

The creation of Djinns is much earlier than humans because they lived on earth before the existence of Adam ( ‘alaihi salaam). The Jinn were created by Allah from a fire as He reveals: {And as the jinn We had created before a fire of a scorching} (Surah 15: Verse 27). This particular fire which were created the Jinn has also been described by the Prophet ( ‘alaihi wasallam) as follows: “The angels were created from light, jinn smoke from a fire and Adam from that which has been described to you “ (Muslim).

The physical appearance of Djinns

Because the Jinn are invisible creatures, it is impossible to know exactly what they look like. We only have descriptions made by Allah and His Messenger ( ‘alayhi wasallam).

Les Djinns although invisible, can sometimes take a different form, according to the will of Allah. This is Abu Bakr al Qady explained: “There is no doubt (after recognizing that the jinn are created fire) that Allah is able to give them a visible appearance and provide them with solid body whose size far exceeds that was theirs when they were still made of fire. It can also give them different forms and aspects for which they left their fuel primitive state. ” The shape of the Jinn can be varied from a Djinn to another and this, according to the appearance that some will take, again according to what Allah has decreed.

Shaykh Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) also said that the jinn changed appearance and, in the words of the Prophet ( ‘alaihi wasallam) that saw the jinn in different forms. The jinn are especially the appearance of humans or animals snakes as was reported by Abu Said al Khoudry according to which the Prophet (alayhi wasallam) said: “There has to Medina Jinn who have submitted (in Islam). If one of them gets into your homes as snakes, ask him to leave. If he did not go to the end of three days, kill him “ (At Tirmidhy).

The fact that the Jinn are different appearances is only possible with the will of Allah. It is He who creates and modifies everything. This metamorphosis of the body, however, is practiced by Djinns practicing witchcraft as explained by ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) when he said: “Nobody can take a look other than that in which Allah created it. But like you, they have identical wizards to yours. When you see things like that, make the adhan “ (Asir ibn ‘Amr). Thus, the Jinn can practice witchcraft and falling into shirk or may follow the commandments of Allah by not worshiping Him. There are different categories in the sense of Djinns, which we will study in the next reminder inshaAllah.

Allah healed our faith in what is apparent and hidden. May He make us righteous slaves and submitted to His will.
